Churches across four counties prepare for Easter Sunday observances celebrating the Resurrection. Two sunrise services are planned in Chanute with choirs, scripture readings, and a mass choir from Chanute and Humboldt, including performances at Santa Fe Park and the Neocha Drive-in theater. The Evangelical United Brethren church will conduct a 10:45 a.m. service at Murray Hill School.

The Chamber of Commerce received a list from the Kansas Industrial Development Commission detailing more than 250 special events across the state for the next year including rodeos fairs centennial celebrations and festivals. Chanute lists three annual events the Spring Farm Show on May 2 3 and 4 the Fourth of July celebration and the Fall Festival. The April meeting at the Masonic Temple will feature Tom Collins as guest speaker and grab bags for attendees. Rain totals through April show 4.39 inches for 1956 and rising monthly rainfall compared with prior years.
