An acquaintance loaned a car for a trip and then fled. The car needed jumper cables to start and broke down about 30 miles from Topeka. The borrower agreed to cover repairs, and a quiet police report followed with no complaint filed. Anglers may try a new lure called a fish caller to attract fish by buzzing like an insect.
A mother Ella Matthews and her children Alma 14 and Carl 10 were killed when an explosion ripped open their two story home in Binghamton New York. The father Woodrow Matthews 40 suffered severe burns and critical injuries from flying debris and was found under a rear porch wearing only shorts. Police initially believed he stabbed himself to cope with the loss.
Charles Van Doren a 31 year old quiz show figure wed Geraldine Ann Bernstein 22 his secretary who handles fan mail. Judge Cyril Michael officiated at the ceremony in Charlotte Amalie. The bride is niece of Sidney and Mrs Kessler owners of the Virgin Isle Hotel. The couple moved the date up because of their romantic surroundings.
Kansas traffic fatalities are tallied by the State Accident Records Section. In the last 24 hours fatalities number 0, year to date 1957 shows 141 deaths, compared with 173 for the same period in 1956.
Mrs. Ernest Eye reported two men posing as city gas employees tried to enter her home at 1101 S Garfield. Police describe one man as 45, 6 feet, 175 pounds in gray clothes, with a dark blue Chevrolet pickup. The incident occurred about 8 15 a.m. and follows a pattern of robberies using gas workers in other towns.
Topeka reports Kansas across the state received rain in the past 24 hours ending 6:30 a.m. with heavy amounts in some localities. The forecast calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms through Thursday with a five day outlook averaging a half inch to one inch of precipitation.

Six members of the Future Nurses Club at Senior High School, with sponsors Mrs Roy A Lawson and Mrs Margaret Wood, visited the Southeast Kansas Tuberculosis Hospital on Tuesday. Detroit report details Ewing Scott, a 60 year old Californian, resisting extradition to California to face murder charges in the 1955 disappearance of his wife Evelyn Throsby Scott. He was seized at the Canadian border after posing as Lewis Stewart and was arraigned on a fugitive warrant in Detroit.
