A white male in his 50s or 60s was found shot in the back in a field near Arthur Bates County Missouri. The body lay for weeks, clothing included overalls and a denim jacket. York Electric Co. announces the purchase of the Model Laundry at 402 FE Main from Charles W. Rice. The facility will keep its name as a York division with no staff or policy changes planned. a manager will be named from within. The laundry employs 19 people.
The Chanute Junior Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a seventh year for a city wide summer job drive led by 1959 chairman Jack Groves. Plans involve high school officials and Kansas State Employment Service to place youths 14 and older in jobs with emphasis on agricultural and domestic work. Last year 212 placements were made from 247 registered, with breakdowns across agriculture 72, trade 15, domestic 12, construction 11, service 10, manufacturing 7 and other 10 percent.
Six youths arrested on April 4 in Chanute faced a police court hearing yesterday and were found not guilty. their $5 bonds were returned. A seventh member did not appear and his bond was forfeited after a complaint that the group stopped a Chanute youth and tried to start a fight.
Two 15 year old members of the Senior High School track squad were injured about 4 p m yesterday at 1407 W Main when hit by a 1951 Buick driven by Henry Roehl 80 of Humboldt Route 2 The boys Tom Breiner 513 S Highland and Don Meyer Route 3 sustained leg and facial injuries and were reported in satisfactory condition at Neosho Memorial Hospital Roehl said he failed to see them until they were about 10 feet away and was traveling east.
District court jurors awarded Robert Beaman 4250 against Loyd Whitworth after an injury to his left hand and wrist in a hay baler accident. Beaman sought 20000 in his action. Testimony in another case concluded with a jury view in E L Beggs land condemnation appeal. Beggs challenges an award for land taken by the State Highway Commission for highway K 6 near Stark.
Kansas fire losses fell about 35 percent in 1958. State Fire Marshal Fred Bergman reported totals of 4,302,748 dollars, down from 6,711,169 dollars in 1957.
