Gala Aviation Day May 1 With Contests and Displays
May 1 marks Aviation Day activities sponsored by the JayCee Flying Club and the Chamber of Commerce. A free breakfast for visiting pilots will be served by the National Guard. Air Force and civilian aircraft will be on display all day with contests testing pilot skill including a spot landing contest using two pound lime bombs from 500 feet aimed at a 90 foot circle. Lyons man rescued after cave-in at grain elevator project
William Richard Barrett, 29, of Lyons, was buried by a cave-in at a grain elevator construction site near a pit for footings. Rescuers pulled him from under nearly two feet of dirt and he was transported to a Hutchinson hospital with severe facial injuries and multiple jaw and nose fractures.
