Woman Slain in Home in Holyoke Housing Project

Roberds dies in Chanute traffic crash
B M Roberds 82 of 118 N Central Chanute was killed in a two car crash at Highland and Walnut about 1 30 p m. He died en route to Neosho Memorial Hospital from internal injuries after his 1948 Dodge collided with a 1951 Plymouth driven by Margaret Haynes 22 of 1202 N Garfield. Haynes suffered a neck injury but was not hospitalized. Miss Haynes told police she swerved but could not stop. The crash was labeled minor with under 50 dollars left rear damage to Roberds car and about 75 dollars to the Haynes front. Dr H F Swain coroner attributed death to internal injuries. Roberds had no valid license. last license issued Dec 22 1955 expired April 9 1957. He was a Chanute city employee in the electrical dept and previously lived in Burlington. He is survived by wife Carrie Zeigler Roberds a daughter Ruth Arline Howell a son Richard a granddaughter Karen Sexton and a great granddaughter Marcia Sexton. Funeral Thursday 2 p m at Johnson Mortuary with Rev Ted Hurst officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Truck Driver Shot in Kansas City Amid Union Conflict
Jack Henderson a 37 year old truck driver opposed to local Teamsters leadership was wounded by a shotgun blast through a living room window. Pellets hit his legs chest and abdomen while police called it a warning shot. Henderson sought NLRB action over alleged unfair labor practices but the hearing was not granted. He has been in touch with the McClellan committee regarding Teamster activities. Police heard fleeing car and seen a man about 30 run to a waiting vehicle.
