Princess the black and white rat, owned by second grade teacher Vernon Manion, became the center of attention at Lincoln School in Junction City after a major operation. A goiter the size of an apple was removed, and the rat has recovered to resume class prominence amid student milk-sharing contests.

Two Car Crash Fatal to Claude Freidline
Claude E. Freidline a 74 year old Wilson County farmer died in a two car collision seven miles southwest of here at about 510 p m yesterday. The other injured were Wayne E Schultz 17 and Jim Joy 16 of Fredonia R 2. Schultz the driver suffered only cuts and bruises while Joy had a broken jaw and was admitted to Neosho Memorial Hospital. The crash occurred when the Schultz Ford convertible collided with Freidline s Dodge as the Freidline car entered the intersection from the north. Both cars were listed as total losses. The highway patrol cited limited visibility from hedges at the crossroad located six miles west of Chanute. Troopers Diane Houck Richard White and Bob Hazlett investigated. Schultz said he and Joy had been to Chanute looking for work and were returning home after taking a wrong turn leaving Chanute. They walked a quarter mile north to the Anderson home to seek aid. Coroner Dr Raymond Beal attributed Freidline s death to a head injury. Freidline was born January 9 1887 and lived his life in Wilson County. He was married to Florence Bles sing and survived by a brother and sister. Funeral arrangements are pending with Roy S Gibson Funeral Home.

Woman Hurt As Pickup Rolls Over At Missouri Crossing
Mrs Roy Harmon 38 of Buffalo was injured when the pickup she rode in overturned near the Missouri Pacific crossing on highway K39 at Fredonia. Her husband 45 and their 3 year old daughter Debby were uninjured. The automatic gates appeared to begin closing as the truck neared, causing the skid into a ditch. She was treated at St Margaret’s Hospital Fredonia for a chest injury.
