Swan soap opera ends as Schultz finds new mate

In Glendale California two swans, Schultz and Gus, lived with Mrs Gus in Forest Lawn’s duck pond. A distant widow swan Maggie on Lake Malibu attracted Schultz. After capture and relocation, Schultz swam to Maggie and they formed a bond, nest built within hours. Gus searched the pond for three days.

Fair and warmer weather is expected in Kansas Sunday after a slow moving storm brought light rain and snow to the north central and northeastern parts. Wichita Woman Is Mrs. Kansas

Mrs. H. Dean Storey of Wichita won the Mrs. Kansas title in a three day contest against four younger finalists. Runner up was Mrs. Dean O. White, also of Wichita, with other finalists from Augusta Clearwater and Fort Worth. Storey will compete for Mrs. America in Fort Lauderdale in June.

Parole Violator Griffith Held After Arrest in Chanute

Jerry Griffith of Chanute was arrested on a state warrant charging a parole violation and held in the city jail pending transfer to Erie. He awaits trial at the district court term starting April 11 for breaking into the Anderson filling station at Island Central.

Three Die In Ogden Car Crash Near Flooded Creek

A car crash near Ogden Kansas killed three people, including 17 year old Anna J Murphy of Manhattan and two Ft. Riley soldiers SP. J.C. Gerald P. Gaynor 26 and Pfc. James Hauk 21 from the 593rd Signal Co. The wreck occurred after the vehicle struck a bridge abutment and plunged into Seven Mile Creek. The car was owned by SFC Fred J. Hauk of Ft. Riley and registered to his son. Murphy's body was recovered at the scene and the two soldiers were later found in the stream.

Young Driver Cited After Traffic Crash

Marvin L Aikins aged 16 of R 1 was cited for reckless driving and driving without lights after his car crossed the center line and hit a northbound 1959 GMC pickup driven by Wayne Sheldon 43 at the North Lincoln overpass about 7 o clock. Damage to the Ford and GMC totaled about 300 with an appearance set for 4 p m Wednesday.
