A Christ mas Poinsettia at Mrs Nellie Stevens home in Chanute is noted with red blossoms in a south window. The Chanute police department reports 32 drivers in 19 March motor vehicle accidents with 6 trucks and 33 cars involved and 65 city investigations in the first quarter.
Forecast calls for partly cloudy skies through Tuesday with after Easter thunder showers tonight and no temperature change. Winds may raise dust in the southwest with Tuesday turning windy and colder. lows near 30 in the northwest to 55 65 in the southeast. Easter Sunday brought 80s to 90s in parts and western Kansas saw dust and few storms earlier.
An Air Force T33 jet crashed in a pasture during its landing pattern at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Both crew members were killed, Lt. P. T. Wren and Lt. J. H. Cootes, from Tacoma Washington, en route to Offutt AFB Omaha Nebraska.
Easter Sunday services drew thousands of worshippers across area churches with sunrise gatherings at Santa Fe Park attracting 500 plus and church totals ranging from 231 at Grant Avenue Baptist to 1,200 at St Patrick’s Catholic. Strong winds shaped attire and attender patterns as parishes reported turnout similar to last year.
Abe Ahring, 74, of 802 S. Ashby, retired water plant superintendent, died of a heart attack while visiting his sister in Kansas City. He retired in 1954 after 45 years at the plant and served as observer for the U S Weather Bureau river forecasting service until October 1954. He was born August 14, 1881 in Chanute, married Anes Cover, who died in 1948, and leaves two sons Richard Chanute and Earl San Diego, plus three grandchildren and two sisters. Funeral is 9 a.m. Tuesday at St Patrick's Church with Rosary tonight at 7:30 in Wilson Johnson chapel.
A massive blaze at Vare Manufacturing Co in Garland Texas destroyed most of the electronic equipment plant last night. Explosions sparked the blaze prompting officials to impose a censorship for security reasons. The firm produces airborne electronic equipment for the government.
Highland Park hosted its Lions Club Easter egg hunt drawing roughly 1,000 participants. Prizes of 3, 2 and 1 dollars rewarded lucky egg finders in three divisions with winners named for preschool to sixth grade groups.
In Bourbon Missouri a three year old girl Beverly Reeves was killed when her mother Alva Reeves moved a pickup forward after letting her out in the grandparents yard. The child ran to the rear and was struck by a wheel.
A taxi collision in Juncion City claimed the life of bus driver Paul W. Cutfinger who was a passenger in the taxi. The cab driver and two occupants in the other car were injured, one seriously, with Cutfinger dying the following day.
The Fair Share Bargaining Assn. drives a milk strike with 112 blocked trucks into Detroit, while shelves stay bare. Sheriff Gregory anticipates more picket activity as Easter kept many farmers at home and creameries forecast partial deliveries amid pressure over price raises from 4.41 to 6.50 per hundredweight.
After a Trans World Airlines crash near Maury Island Seattle, 22 dead and 14 injured were reported from 34 rescued aboard a lifeboat flyover. Coast Guard noted 32 of 37 aboard survived in the Puget Sound incident, while a separate Pittsburgh takeoff disaster claimed 22 lives. The two crashes, occurring within hours, involved a TWA Stratocruiser and prompted emergency staging for survivors near Vashon Island and Seattle.

In Louisville Kentucky Charles Edelen a 35 year old tavern keeper shot a dying intruder Claude E Hill a 35 painter during a break in by the window Edelen then baptized him asking if he had been baptized before Henry Randazzo a detective identified Hill and Edelen was charged with manslaughter released on 2500 bond
A new association of southeast Kansas county commissioners and county engineers will organize in the Memorial building at 10 a.m. with officer elections. Merritt R. Royer of the Asphalt Institute will speak as the group, including Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, and other counties, plans two meetings yearly focusing on highway programs.
The Rev V C Buttermore and his 8 year old daughter Marlene were confined to bed with mumps causing them to miss Sunday services. Dr Earl Ford preached and Eldon Nolte stood in as fill in pastor after the exposure from 6 year old Elaine. Buttermore, formerly of Chanute, now serves in Coffeyville.
State Accident Records Section reports traffic fatalities over the last 48 hours. To date in 1956 tally reaches 144, compared with 121 in the same period of 1953.

Fire swept through Billy Rose's three story country home on his Mount Kisco estate early today. Police said Rose was at the house yesterday afternoon but left later. All servants escaped from the blazing house.
