Longtime Tuxedo Park police chief 35 years in service will retire. He led 14 officers guarding 7 500 acres with 36 miles of bridle paths and 30 miles of roads, overseeing 22 800 cars daily through the village and 1 280 cars in a single day. He joined as a patrolman in 1877 and became chief in 1891.

Slain Conklin gang accomplices nabbed in New York region

Two brothers of the Conklin gang, linked to numerous robberies in Orange and adjacent counties, were arrested near Suffern and Spring Valley after detective work by state troopers. Daniel “Dynamite” Conklin confessed to radio theft at the Case home, implicating Warren and Clarence. Warren surrendered and confessed alongside Daniel. Clarence remains at large. Theodore Conklin, slain by Trooper Williams near Suffern, had previously led the gang. Police say Warren’s Suffern home contained extensive stolen goods, including 15 shotguns and hardware, awaiting identification by a moving truck.

Chester Methodist Men’s Club Holds Banquet

The Chester Methodist Church Men’s Club hosted a roast beef banquet in the church parlors with American flags and potted plants as decor.
