Ray Mancini retained the WBA lightweight title with a ninth round knockout of Orlando Romero at Madison Square Garden. Romero, ranked No.1 by the WBA, pressed the challenger before Mancini landed a left hook that dropped Romero at 1:56 of the ninth as Mancini sought his first defense since the Kim tragedy.
