Reagan wins defense bill with MX missile and nerve gas

The Democratic controlled House approved the 1984 defense authorization bill by 266 to 152 after Senate passage. The measure funds new weapons including the MX missile and resumes chemical weapons production. Iowa's six member delegation opposed the bill. The bill now goes to President Reagan, amid U S response to the Soviet downing of KAL 007.

Bohemian sells downtown office building to bank

United State Bank of Cedar Rapids buys Bohemian Savings and Loan downtown building at 320 Third St SE for occupancy early next year. The bank plans executive offices on the second floor and a teller lobby on the ground floor while its southwest base remains the main facility. Bohemian will relocate to larger quarters in the central business district.

Fire marshal halts Oxford temporary classroom project
