Nerve gas program faces renewed fight as defense bill moves
Defenders of the defense bill pledge to press nerve gas weapon limits when the defense appropriations bill reaches a House vote in weeks. Zablocki and Bethune say hundreds oppose the nerve gas program, while supporters cite the 416 zero to one vote on a resolution condemning the Soviet Union as evidence Congress must act. The measure authorizes 18.9 billion more than current spending, including 4.8 billion for 21 MX missiles and 5.6 billion for 10 B-1 bombers.
