He described the Nixon era as attacking a heart and a feel for people, saying the joy of being American has disappeared from the national scene amid small decimalities during a three and a half state tour. Shriver, on his first campaign swing in Iowa as McGovern’s running mate choice, received a rousing welcome in a heavily Democratic, Catholic city.
