Ithiel B. Bean 69 of Le Mesa California formerly Cedar Rapids died Saturday after a long illness. Born Jan 30 1907 in Traer he married Gertrude Humbert in Dubuque in 1934. Retired from Link-Belt Speeder after 26 years active in Masonic orders. Cremation. memorial Friday at Christ United Presbyterian Cedar Rapids with Masonic rites. Memorials to American Cancer Society. A Cedar Rapids man, Ferdinand G. Schulte, 23, of 863 Fourth Avenue SE, remained in Linn county jail Tuesday on charges of malicious injury to a building after an incident Monday. He is accused of kicking in a door at Rodney Bounds’s residence at 727 Fifth Avenue SE and was arrested at 12:45 am Tuesday in lieu of a $500 bond.
Police reported ten windows were shot out of four vehicles at Rapids Chevrolet on 601 First Avenue in Cedar Rapids. Employees said a car lost two windows valued at 150 dollars, two vans lost five windows valued at 350 dollars, and another vehicle lost three windows valued at 175 dollars. The incident happened between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Orlie Workman, a Democratic sheriff candidate, calls for widening the farm equipment marking program in Linn County. Speaking at Springville city hall, he says sheriff’s office should run the service, publicize it through farm groups, and note the cost savings of about 30 dollars per farmer to boost participation and curb thefts in rural areas.

The Cedar Rapids bid opening for the new civic center and shared hotel will occur Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Memorial Armory on May's Island. Architect Leo Peiffer says eight general contractors may bid, but the low bid will require study due to project complexity and shared structures. Voters authorized $7 million in bonds for the center. Also noted, on this date in 1628, Salem was chartered by John Endecott.
Kenneth Price reports theft of items valued at 300 from his acreage near Coggon last week. Loot included a table a grinding wheel a forge and two hydrants. Susan Meek reports forced entry to her residence on Monday with drawers ransacked but nothing reported missing.
The Accountants Assn of Iowa will sponsor a workshop on new federal retirement and profit sharing legislation September 21 at Meth-Wick Manor 1224 Thirteenth Street NW. Mike Early of Peoples Bank will discuss investments under these plans and two IRSsponsored firms will be shown.
