Three Linn Judge Suspends Three Sentences

In Linn district court Elmer L. Mathews 24 of Cedar Rapids received a six month jail term suspended and one year probation on a reduced criminal charge tied to a July 21 Cedar Rapids burglary involving about 4000 in stolen items. John W. Lint 20 of Cedar Rapids got five years in Anamosa reformatory suspended and four years probation for lascivious acts with a child stemming from a January 19 incident with a seven year old girl. Bruce A. Litterer 22 of Greene was sentenced to three months in jail suspended and two years probation for delivery of a controlled substance as an accommodation after selling three ounces of MDA to an undercover agent for 1950.

Heart Seminar At St Luke's Board View Planned

A Cedar Rapids heart specialist presented a seminar for St Luke's Hospital board members on new hospital heart care techniques. He highlighted portable defibrillators, intraveneous drug delivery and wearables to monitor recovery, plus patient education efforts.

Education Subcommittee Holds Cedar Rapids Hearings on Vocational Ed

Congressman Michael Blouin announced that the House subcommittee on elementary, secondary and vocational education will hold a public hearing at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids next Tuesday starting at 10 a.m. Attending will be Rep. Carl Perkins and four subcommittee members, with testimony from Iowa Department of Public Instruction, area technical schools, community colleges, administrators and teachers. The session aims to review vocational education growth in Iowa and potential federal program improvements. The hearings precede a similar session in Springfield, Illinois, and are open to the public.

DOT Approves I 380 Design Through Cedar Rapids

The Iowa DOT approved a modified I 380 route through Cedar Rapids from 1st Avenue to Forty second Street NE to avoid two acres of land for a $2.25 million Windsor Heights apartment complex on Sierra Drive. The plan keeps McCloud Run near its current course and adds service roads between Coldstream and Glass Road. Construction is set for 1978 with completion in 1980. A detour for Highway 30 near Cedar Rapids was also approved and will run from Bowling Street to U S 30 until November.

Civic Center Meeting Set For Thursday

Cedar Rapids eyes a proposed community center to be built with a privately owned hotel on urban renewal land between Roosevelt Royale and the Fourth Street railroad tracks. A special mayor's committee will meet Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in city council chambers to draft a recommendation. meeting open to the public. The plan is spearheaded by local businessman Peter F Bezanson.

Kirkwood Incumbents Re elected to Board Seats

All three incumbents retained seats on the Kirkwood Community College board in Tuesday elections. Director B A Jensen won district six with 3 215 votes while James Sauter earned 1 286 votes in district four and Max Lewis 1 045 votes in district nine. terms are three years.
