Iowas Eastern Iowa IJOBS grants reshape flood and city projects

The IJOBS Review Committee backed about 23 Cedar Rapids area projects including 3.65 million for Coralville flood mitigation, nearly 1.2 million for a six block West Union green upgrade, and funding for a flood protected outdoor riverfront amphitheater. The fire department will replace its flood damaged Central Fire Station with a new downtown area location and plan a westside station. The city studies amphitheater capacity as a regional venue to be floodable, while flood protection on both Cedar River sides remains a priority. Earlier grants included 5 million for a new library, 15 million for the Event Center, 5 million for the Public Works Building, and other flood related projects. Comments: (319) 398-8312.
