City to gain Cedar River land near Ellis Park in a transfer

The Iowa Conservation Commission is expected to approve transferring title of land along the Cedar River opposite Ellis Park to Cedar Rapids. The site formed when IDOT mined sand for I 380 and was later posted no trespassing. Local resident Richard Cortez asked if the inlet area remains public fishing ground as police had asked several visitors to leave. The city hopes ownership will resolve the dispute, with the commission having no stated objection to public use if private land isn't encroached.
