Swordfish life cycle and hunting habits explored
In Nature notes Uncle Rays outlines how baby swordfish resemble small fins at first, develop jaws and barbs as they grow, then form true swords. It notes breeding origins around the Mediterranean near Sicily, typical adult size and weight ranges, and their predatory strikes on herrings and mackerel. It adds that swordfish occasionally strike ships and mentions a museum example from ship planks.
