A Scott County jury awarded more than 1.6 million dollars to the daughter of Steve Schwarz for medical malpractice by Dr. Michelle M. Sprengelmeyer. The verdict faulted Sprengelmeyer for mismanaging a staph infection after spine surgery, while discharging him to Cedar Manor where care allegedly fell short. Schwarz died in July 2020 after the infection worsened and hospice care was initiated.
