Milwaukee Hopes to Preserve Marion Rail Link Amid Abandonment Plans
Milwaukee Road plans to abandon its line through Marion to Tama while promising continued service via Chicago and North Western tracks. Marion officials and local businesses worry about higher costs and delays if trucking mag oxide and lumber replaces rail delivery, and the city council has filed objections. Public hearings by the ICC will decide the route’s fate after November 1, with impacts on local customers like King Castle Inc and Marion Cashway Lumber Co.
