Convicts Testify Oakdale Employees Supplied Liquor
Judge James P Gaffney ordered a grand jury probe into Oakdale prison camp after three Anamosa inmates testified that Oakdale staff supplied liquor and other items. The convicts, on trial for breaking out and driving a state car into Illinois, faced additional sentences while naming workers who provided liquor and rubbing alcohol. The judge demanded accountability and warned of a personal indictment if the county attorney did not pursue the inquiry.
