William Earl Essick longtime New York Yankees scout and famed talent hunter died in his Los Angeles home at age 70. He is credited with finding and bringing to the Yankees stars including Joe DiMaggio Bob Meusel Frank Crosetti and Joe Gordon. Essick, a Knox College conservatory graduate, pursued baseball as his life’s work after graduation.
