Fall Movement Of Lambs To Corn Belt Lightest In 14 Years
The United States Department of Agriculture reports September feeding lambs to the corn belt at 55 percent of last year and 60 percent of the five year average. July through September shipments are 53 percent of 1931, the smallest in at least fourteen years. Movement slowed by better grazing, with western states varying, and the six month slaughter rate suggests the year's total will be below recent years but above 1913 levels. Stockers and feeders into the corn belt were 7 percent below the five year average for September, though overall three month totals show a small rise over a year ago. Prices and financing for feeding operations remain cautioned as margins and feeder supplies balance.
