Courts may settle fire police pension refunds in Iowa
A ruling blocks 81 small Iowa towns from seeking refunds of Social Security contributions by their police and firefighters. IPERS administrator Maurice Baringer says the decision will likely be challenged in court, as the issue centers on a 1953-1980 legal interpretation and the ongoing Social Security coverage for public employees. Colleen Shearer confirmed the ruling to keep Social Security in place after Nevada police chief Ray A. Couser sought judgment.
