Fire destroys replica fort at Lewis and Clark site in Oregon
A 50 by 50 foot replica fort at Fort Clatsop in the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park was destroyed by fire Monday night. Firefighters tried to save the structure but the superintendent said half the fort burned and the other half is essentially a loss. No electricity or gas fed the fire, and investigators began work Tuesday morning. The fort was built in 1955 to mark the expedition’s sesquicentennial and is a centerpiece of the park linking sites across Oregon and Washington. The Bicentennial events planned for the fort will continue through the winter.

Foam problem on Discovery blamed on worker error
NASA officials cite a probable worker error during tank work at Michoud as the cause of foam insulation loss from Discovery's external tank. The incident, likened to a pre Columbia issue, prompted grounding of the shuttle fleet with spring as the earliest possible return, hampered by hurricane delays and ongoing repairs.
