The Iowa Transportation Commission proposed a $2 billion five year program to widen I 80 from west of I 380 to east of IA 1 in Johnson County. The 7.3 mile project would add six lanes with major work starting in 2007 including 26.2 million for grading and paving, with gaps in funding in 2008 and resumed work in 2009 and 2010.
The draft Iowa DOT plan lists near seventy million to widen 7.3 miles of I 80 in Johnson County from west of the 380 interchange to east of the Iowa 1 interchange. It includes about ten million for Collins Road widening in Cedar Rapids in 2009 and more than thirty million for a four lane US 30 Tama bypass from 2007 to 2010. It also allocates over fifty six million for four lane US 34 Fairfield bypass from 2006 to 2009 and about fifty six million for four lane US 61 Fort Madison bypass from 2009 to 2010.
The U S Mint unveils a forward looking Jefferson on the 5 cent coin to mark the 1804 05 Lewis and Clark era and the Louisiana Purchase. Designer Jamie Franks beat 147 entries and the Mint expects 1.4 to 1.8 billion coins in circulation next year with Jefferson Monticello on the reverse and Liberty in Jeffersons hand writing.
