REA copper supply squeezed by national defense demand
Representative Henry O Talle met with Donald Nelson to press copper allocations for rural electrification projects. Nelson said copper needs outstrip supply and pledged steps including a copper stock survey, banning nonessential uses, and allocating copper to REA where possible. About 75 900 tons would normally be needed this year with potential savings of 100 000 tons from nonessential use, though diversion to REA remains uncertain.
