Reports say Japan began grand maneuvers in French Indo China with enough troops for a full campaign though numbers were not released. Observers in Saigon warn of a potential southern Asia move while Tokyo urged US mediation.
Private reports from Japan say President Roosevelt’s reply to Premier Konoye’s message was delivered in Tokyo a week ago as Japan observed the Berlin Rome alliance anniversary. Toyoda reported to Emperor Hirohito and high Japanese officials held conferences, with no details released. The reply’s content remains undisclosed and unlikely to cause startling changes in relations.
Fort Dodge police hold J P Hoffman of Des Moines on a warrant for cheating by false pretenses.
