The highway commission lists closures on Iowa 64 3.5 miles Preston to Miles and Iowa 136 7 miles Wyoming to Oxford Junction with gravel detours. Other closures include Iowa 74 3 miles Bennett west and north with mixed detours and 1 mile gravel. Detours on U.S. 218 Cedar Rapids and Iowa 248 0.6 mile near the state hospital are surfaced or paved as noted. Iowa 261 10 miles Solon to Iowa City closes with a 14.5 mile surfaced detour. Iowa 122 1 mile Davenport closure with 1.6 miles paved detour. Iowa 290 1 mile Clay ton county closure from Iowa 13 west with 1.3 miles earth detour.
The largest Coe College band in history, guided by Stanley Vesely, will number over 90 musicians. Senior plans include a spring concert tour to Orchestra Hall in Chicago and a June appearance at the New York World's Fair. Campbell cemetery six miles east of Cedar Rapids on highway 30 observes Linn county's centennial. Pioneer Perry Oxley helped found the site with his family. the first grave was Lewis Williams in 1839. Grandmother Campbell remembered unmarked graves and guided early burials as settlers expanded this rural burial ground into a county landmark.

The event marks Oct 28 the Czech Slovak independence day after three centuries of oppression. Mudry now lives in Cudahy Wis having fled recently from his homeland due to Gestapo attention. The program committee includes Joseph Janeba Frank Sykora Bretislav Kubik and two women organizers.

Z C B J supreme officers and the girls drill team will travel to Chicago next Saturday to participate in the district celebration and initiation. About 400 new members will be initiated Sunday Oct 8 with Cedar Rapids girls drill team taking part. Supreme officers listed include Frank M Barta and John V Rompotl.
