Heaviest frost hit Alta, Cherokee, Atlantic, Des Moines, Iowa Falls, Charles City, Waterloo and Iowa City. light to moderate frost observed in Sioux City, Creston, Omaha, Cedar Rapids and Davenport. Rainfall ranged from .01 inch to about a quarter inch in southern and eastern Iowa. Forecast calls for warmer temperatures Sunday and warnings to protect for 30 to 35 degree readings Saturday night.

CIO Director Found Guilty Of Malicious Mischief In Sioux City
James Porter regional director of the CIO packinghouse workers union was found guilty of malicious mischief for leading strikers in the stoning of windows at the home of William E Kruch in Sioux City last year. The jury assessed $40 damages and sentencing by Judge Miles Newby is set for next week.

The Delaware county Sunday school convention met at Golden church with Rev. Floyd Maynard presiding from Colesburg. State worker O G Herbrecht spoke. New officers elected include President Rev. E F McClain of Ryan and vice presidents Lyle Sutton Delhi Mrs M F Clifton Earlville John Schaub Greeley. Registration showed 81 present and 25 Sunday schools represented. Earlville won the silver cup for largest attendance. Next year’s meeting will be in Colesburg.

Alberta Bond and Maxine Leslie, who lost nearly all clothing when the Robert Blythe home burned Monday night, were treated at a party Thursday hosted by Margaret Trevett and Margaret Lindell. Gifts included cash for the women and food baskets for Ray Allen and his wife who also lived there but saved most belongings.

Ottumwa police sought a robber after Arthur Geifman 22 was killed at his shoe store. The victim lay behind the counter with the cash register looted except for pennies. He died at 1 45 pm after being beaten and shot behind the left ear. a small baseball bat was found nearby.
Wilson Refuses Pardon for Davenport Stock Swindler
Gov George A Wilson on Saturday declined to intercede in the case of Herman G Doll Davenport who received a seven year state prison term for cheating by false pretenses. Doll must begin serving Oct 5 when a stay order ends. He appeared before the governor with his attorney and Jackson county attorney Arthur Jansen who opposed the pardon. Doll was convicted of selling illegal stocks to Mrs Sarah Kerby of Andrew Iowa.

Injured Moeller's band manager found after auto crash
Earl Wiebbecke, manager of Moeller's accordion band, was hurt when his car overturned in a ditch near the Harold Bel linger farm about 1 a.m. He lay trapped for five hours until discovered by Bellinger. A broken steering component pierced his neck. he was taken to a Waterloo hospital and is expected to recover. It is believed he fell asleep at the wheel while returning to Waterloo from his parents' home in Dysart.

Brooklyn votes down utilities franchise
In an election here Friday the Iowa Southern Utilities company lost its fight for a renewal of its franchise. There were 555 ballots cast of 875 voters, with 446 opposed and 109 in favor. Last Friday a favorable vote approved building a municipal plant costing $135,000 to be managed by three trustees appointed by the city council.

Fire destroys Doyle farm home in Anamosa county area
An undetermined fire at Thomas Doyle’s farm home east of here destroyed the dwelling Thursday night. Loss estimates reach 9000 dollars with insurance partly covering the damage. The Doyles, visiting in Delhi when the blaze started about 9 p.m., were alerted by neighbors as Manchester fire crews saved outbuildings. Doyle plans immediate rebuilding.

CRESTON AP A Union county grand jury indicted James Huntington of Cres ton, former deputy county treasurer, on grand larceny and forgery charges. The larceny relates to a September 9 robbery at the county treasurer office with $2815 taken. The forgery concerns altered motor vehicle fee receipt records. Huntington was jailed with bonds of $3000 per count after being discharged by Treasurer F C Locke last Saturday when a forgery charge was filed. he pled innocent and was released on bond.

Farm youth held in extortion plot near Creston
Beryl Siddens 22 of a farm near Creston was jailed on a charge of attempting to extort 3000 from neighbor Wallace Wells. A letter signed X23 warned Wells to drop 3000 in a fruit jar by 8 am Friday.
