Keokuk Thanksgiving blast haunts survivors two decades on
Survivors of the 1965 Keokuk National Guard Armory explosion recall the Nov 26 dance disaster that killed seven on site and later claimed 21 lives. The blast injured many, destroyed the Swing Easy Square Dance Club venue, and spurred long lasting trauma and memorials. An investigation blamed a severed natural gas pipe feeding a blast into the basement and dome. Emergency crews, hospitals, and donors aided victims as survivors remember the night and its aftereffects.
