Former Lawrence Welk musician returns to Algona hometown
Dick Dale 81, a former Lawrence Welk band member, has moved back to Algona Iowa after a year away and regularly visits River Road Golf Club for coffee. He recalled his career from junior high in Algona to the Surf Ballroom and Pat O’Brien’s New Orleans, and spoke of his Welk show tenure and champagne music. About 800 fans attended a recent Shimkat Motor Co. dance in Fort Dodge to hear him perform.
