Ul to pay extra for Friday classes

The University of Iowa will start a four year pilot in fall 2008 offering each Liberal Arts and Sciences department $20 for every student in a course moved to Friday. Departments must initiate the change and shift at least two popular or required courses to qualify. The plan aims to reduce Thursday night drinking by increasing Friday class enrollment. Helena Dettmer, associate dean for academic programs and services, backs the measure as a strong initiative.
