Drawing lots settles two-bank bid tie for Iowa county bonds
In Johnson County Iowa officials used a lottery to choose between Hills Bank and Trust Co and U S Bank after both bid 3.45 percent on a 2.26 million general obligation bond issue for county projects. Hills Bank won and the board approved that choice. The same week Cedar Rapids Linn County and the school district earned the 2007 Excellence in Action Award for the Joint Communication Fiber Optic Network project. The trio plans phase 2 completion by 2012 with a final network cost just over 10 million and an expected 128 connected buildings. Three Linn County officials were named to state association roles related to clerks treasurers and online county services. The weekly column is by Gazette staff.

Cedar Rapids District 4 registration deadline set for Nov 26
The Gazette reports the last day to register for the Cedar Rapids City Council District 4 runoff election is Monday November 26. Voters must file Iowa registration forms with Linn County Auditor by 5 PM and may use the county website. Absentee ballots are available as the race pits incumbent Chuck Swore against Chuck Wieneke. District 4 includes Precincts 12 through 20 listing Coolidge Elementary to Harrison Elementary.
