Chamber Hosts Kenya Educators in Cedar Rapids Visit

Thirteen Kenyan educators and school administrators arrived in Cedar Rapids for a four day training program. They will tour the city, dine with leaders, visit Quaker Oats and Washington High School, and take a farm tour before departing for San Francisco.

Three Mt. Pleasant youths hurt in Iowa crash

A one car crash near Keswick on Highway 22 injured three Mt. Pleasant youths Saturday afternoon. Driver Stanley Kerr and passenger Timothy Proctor, 17, were admitted to University Hospital in Iowa City for facial lacerations in serious condition. Timothy’s brother Donald Proctor was taken to Keokuk County Hospital.

Jefferson Senior Elected DECA Iowa Chapter Secretary

A Jefferson high school senior was elected secretary of the Iowa chapter of the Distributive Education Clubs of America in Des Moines. Mary Ellen Janey, 18, daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Janey, won the vote of the chapter's delegate assembly. Her DE instructor at Jefferson is Michael Crawford. Thought Asleep C R Man Proves Suddenly Awake

A man believed asleep in a running car in the 300 block of Second Avenue SW awoke and struck a police motorcycle driven by Patrolman Lynn Faaborg. George Kindl 37 of 709 Fourth Avenue SE fled, hit a parked car then ran a stop light before being halted. He was charged with reckless driving striking an unattended vehicle and attempting to elude a peace officer. Damage to the motorcycle was about $300.

Cedar Rapids Man Hurt Crossing Street After Hit By Car

A 70 year old Cedar Rapids man, Daniel Blake, suffered facial lacerations and a possible shoulder injury when struck by a car at 7 p.m. while crossing a street in front of his home. He was treated at Mercy hospital and released. Driver Phillip D. Ruth was not charged.

Marengo Man Hurt In Fall From Truck

A Marengo man, Ray Sipe, 48, was injured Saturday afternoon after falling from a truck while working at a Fairfax quarry. He suffered possible head and shoulder injuries and was treated at Mercy Hospital before release.
