C R Man Arrested for Car Theft in Cedar Rapids

Stafford got 30 day suspended sentence for resisting an officer after presenting another youth's ID to hide his own absence from the navy. Four juveniles charged with possessing beer were turned over to parents. A 16 year old changed his driver's license to fake a 1942 birth year, charged as a juvenile.

Death by own action for aunt poisoner suspect
SAN FRANCISCO AP A child psychologist once sought for allegedly poisoning his wealthy aunt died Friday in a hotel. William Cootes 38 was found in his room from an apparent sleeping pills overdose a passport and a note for disposal of his body were recovered. He had been a national FBI target since September 14 in a case involving carbon tetrachloride in the aunt's coffee and tea while she was in a convalescent hospital. The aunt a former Ziegfeld Follies dancer Mrs Vanda Unger 66 had liver disease and arthritis and was under 24 hour vigil as doctors warned the poison could be fatal if given over time. Cootes had been named conservator of Unger's estate after she reported $28000 missing before vanishing from home. He reportedly died as authorities pursued the case.

Student Suffered Neck Wound In Gun Mishap
A 21 year old Coe College student Leslie C Wackher suffered a gunshot wound to the neck in an apartment at 1637 E avenue NE. The 38 caliber revolver held by Kevin McCaffrey fired accidentally striking Wackher and embedding in the wall. McCaffrey and Robert Sawyer 21 were present. Detectives report they misled police with a false address report and that McCaffrey bought the gun Wednesday from a local pawn shop and had fired three practice shots. Wackher's condition was listed as fairly good at Mercy hospital. The accident occurred Friday night at the northeast side apartment.
