Leon Fitzsimmons 66 of Cedar Rapids died in Detroit after a brief illness. Born September 21 1898 in Cedar Rapids he was the son of the late George Albert and Rose Ann Fitzsimmons. A World War II veteran he is survived by his sister Miss Marvel Fitzsimmons of Detroit. The body will be moved to Turner chapel for services at an announced time with burial at Czech National Cemetery.
Former Cedar Rapids resident Mrs Hiram Stebbins aged 70 died Sunday in Fort Madison. She is survived by her husband a daughter Mrs Danny Smith of Fort Madison and one grandson Memorial services are set for Wednesday at 2 p m at Barr Memorial chapel Fort Madison.

Canada’s federal health department restarts periodic tests for radioactive iodine in milk following China’s nuclear explosion on October 16. The program had been halted in September 1963 after iodine levels were deemed insignificant.
In Linn district court a jury was chosen for a $95,360 damage suit filed by Patricia L. Burkle of Cedar Rapids against Gaile and Wesley McGrew. The case stems from an alleged accident on Old Marion road NE on June 17, 1961. Jurors named include Harry D. Kinding, Anne H. Zvacek, Elma White, J. Robert Shepherd, William L. Shebetka, Olive M. Bassett, Marilyn J. Watson, Richard Kohl, Janet Dvorak, James J. Jensen, Lyle Rodman, and Forrest V. Mounce with alternate Hollis Joy.
Ronald E. Bergman age 25 of 1200 Third Avenue SE pled guilty before Linn District Judge William Eads to a lewdness count and received a six month suspended jail term. He was accused by three Cedar Rapids girls of an incident on Thursday night in the 200 block of Twelfth Street SE and was arrested the same night.
Edward H. Knight, 18, of route two Cedar Rapids, was arraigned in Linn district court on larceny of a motor vehicle. He was given until November 23 at 10 a.m. to enter a plea. Knight allegedly stole a 1953 model car owned by Charles L. Moel of 2418 First Street SW on Friday evening.
MALTON England AP Titch the 7 foot 135 pound baby beluga whale is ill and has been ordered absolute rest. Flamingo park zoo closed the dolphin house where Titch lives while a fiberglass box flight delivered her from Canada. Reg Bloom the zoo director-curator accompanied the transfer and described her as sweet natured and social.
Dr. Karl E. Mattson, 59, president of the Rock Island campus of the Lutheran School of Theology and former Augustana Theological Seminary head, died Monday of a heart attack. A Warren Minnesota native, he led the school since 1948.

Vogelgesang of the Iowa Citizens Council on Crime and Delinquency argue that at least 90 Iowa county jails must be replaced by a regional system. He cites abuses, escapes, and underfunded facilities, urging probation expansion and a $2.8 million state request for a new regional jail and diagnostic center.
