Assault Reported After Confrontation On Seventh Ave
Marion police investigate an early Thursday assault in the 1600 block of Seventh Avenue. Victim Lorna Curl, 30, of 1625 Seventh Avenue, says a short stocky man aged 20 to 25 dragged her from her porch into his car and struck her several times. A bystander, John Chambers of 212 Windsor Drive NE, Cedar Rapids, stopped nearby. the assailant pushed Curl from the car and fled. Curl had a bloody nose and bruised eyes.

Hatland Injured In Home Explosion Sent To University Hospitals
Ray Hatland aged 51 of 4020 Prairie Jane SW was moved to University Hospitals in Iowa City for treatment of second and third degree burns from a Tuesday home explosion and fire. He had earlier been at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids before transfer as his condition deteriorated. He remained in serious condition Thursday. Hatland allegedly tried to take his own life.
