Iowa firms contributed metal skins and structural parts from Alcoa Davenport, Collins Radio Cedar Rapids built the spacecraft comms system, Bendix Davenport supplied instruments, and Midwest Nameplate Mt. Vernon provided identification plates. Numerous Iowa companies from Mason City to Spirit Lake supplied parts, coatings, and equipment for ground facilities and tracking, with Spirit Lake firm Berkley Bedell highlighted for its stainless steel cable used on the mission.

Manchester Loses Its City Manager
Manchester council members were defeated last Tuesday and city manager Clarence A. Motz will leave with them after serving 3% years. He accepted a new job in Ohio and will announce details at the next council meeting Monday. Motz cited water and sewer rate increases as a factor in the defeat.

Ferris Named Aide In Stanley Campaign
Roger L. Ferris is named campaign director for David Stanley's bid for Iowa's First District. The appointment, announced by Stanley and campaign manager Edward D. Failor, assigns Ferris to direct the overall campaign effort. Ferris previously served as assistant manager for Stanley's 1968 Senate campaign and has just returned from military service.

Keystone’s oldest resident Dora Schenken dies at 95
Dora Schenken, 95, longtime Keystone resident since 1886 and a retired postmaster, died early Wednesday. Survived by four sons Arthur in Beaumont Texas Carlos in Keystone Paul in Cedar Rapids and Dr Rudy Schenken in Omaha and two daughters Irene Pickard in Cedar Rapids and Dorothy Baum in Vinton.
