Farm Price Index Drops Six Points in Iowa October
Iowa farm price index fell from 104 percent of normal in September to 98 in October, erasing part of September’s 23 point gain. Buying power slipped to 80 percent as prices for inputs held steady, while consumer incomes show lagged improvement and demand for farm goods remains uneven. Hog and cattle trends point to softer hog prices and relatively firm feeder and stocker cattle, with lambs and butter expected to stay strong or steady through winter. Turkey prices rise with holiday demand though still below last year.
