Guests Inspire Social Schedule In City

Out of town visitors are the week’s social focus with luncheons and teas. Mrs. Clifford Hubbell and Mrs. Charles M. Kennedy of Buffalo are guests of Mrs. W. W. Hamilton at the Roosevelt hotel. Mrs. Malcolm V. Bolton hosted a Carlton luncheon. Mrs. James Stannard Baker of Ravinia and her daughter Ann Warren are visiting the Warns. Tuesday luncheon at the Commonwealth tea room honored Mrs. Baker. The Bakers plan a Denver trip then a Mexico visit before Christmas.

White Cross designs new hospital room endowment

The White Cross society plans to endow a St Luke's hospital room for children of deserv­ing parents as its new project. Proceeds from the 1939 Christmas ball at Cedar Rapids Country Club will fund the endowment, following the society’s 1938 endowment for self supported working girls.

NBC commentator Donald McGibney addressed 355 Cedar Rapids Woman's club members and guests at Coe college chapel. He warned the United States is in the war up to its neck while urging neutrality in thought and action and proposing an international police force. Bain Family Trip Returns From Chicago and Great Lakes Visit

Local Men To Oppose Iowa Cityan's Plea To Operate Truck Line

An interstate commerce commission hearing in Des Moines will consider E. C. Warren of Iowa City seeking rights to operate a truck line serving general commodities within 25 miles and perishables within 100 miles. Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway officials oppose over the Cedar Rapids route. A separate hearing in Cedar Rapids will examine E. Miller of Iowa City seeking a certificate to extend operations.

Ossian Farm Youth Sentenced At Waukon

Ralph Hertges aged 18 from near Ossian pled guilty to breaking and entering in Allamakee county district court. He received up to ten years at the Anamosa State Reformatory and was escorted there by Sheriff John King. Hertges was one of three farm youths who looted eight stores in Postville and Ossian on October 28.

Cedar Rapids Bird Club seeks state action to stop further drying of Amana Lake a base for wild fowl observations during spring and fall migrations members met Monday evening to discuss remedies and preserve the habitat for migratory birds.
