Losing Five Players Hurt Iowa Chance

IOWA CITY. Coach Dick Schultz blamed five key players missing for the Hawkeyes’ Big Ten season ending with a doubleheader loss to Michigan. Iowa finished 7-1 in the conference and 21-24 overall, losing two games 3-2 and 7-8 after Michigan scored seven runs in the fifth. Schultz expects a stronger lineup next year, though players may depart for pro drafts or due to eligibility. He counted the win over Big Ten champion Minnesota as a standout performance, praising the comeback from a 5-0 deficit.
