French Seek Firm UN Ruling on Suez Canal
Paris Foreign Minister Christian Pineau travels to New York to press the UN Security Council for a clear ruling that single man control of the Suez Canal is temporary. A favorable decision could allow French flag shipping to resume using the canal while awaiting agreement on its international status. France remains the sole major maritime power boycotting Nasser's authority, intensifying pressure on French shipowners.
