Lisbon's Schaefer takes second in 1A long jump
Lisbon junior Schaefer soared 21-8 in the Class 1A long jump at Drake Stadium to finish runner-up behind Austin Jordan of Grand View Christian. The Lions defended champions, with Schaefer and rival Owen Scott of Hillcrest Academy posting personal-best state finishes as East Buchanan’s Noah Valenzuela also placed third in the 400. Meghan Wheatley, running the 3000 for North Linn, finished second in a personal-best 10:27.88, overcoming ARFID challenges with support from coaches and family as she eyes Northern Iowa next year. Prompted by adversity, Wheatley and other local athletes delivered notable state performances.
