Cedar Rapids study eyes new grocer after Hy-Vee closure
The Gazette reports Cedar Rapids commissioned a city study finding high opportunity for a price-conscious grocery in the New Bohemia District Med Quarter and downtown. Hy-Vee closes its 1556 First Ave NE location June 23 leaving Wellington Heights and Mound View without a store. A price impact warehouse format grocer is proposed to serve the gap.

Johnson County seeks $30 million park and trail bond
The Johnson County Board of Supervisors approved language for a November ballot referendum asking voters to authorize a $30 million bond to protect water quality natural areas and acquire land for parks and trails. If approved by 60 percent, the measure would raise funds for the Johnson County Conservation Board with a maximum tax impact of about $5 per $100 000 of assessed value, though many years may show little or no increase. The Our Land Our Water Our Future committee backs the plan with committee co chair Joshua Schamberger noting the aim to secure trails rivers embankments and forests.
