Chicago reports weaker demand in pork markets with receipts near expected levels. Prices retreated 25 to 35 cents from Monday's 32 month peaks, while hogs and sows showed modest declines and lighter supplies led to mixed movement across weight classes.
AHA stock receipts show fed steers under 1000 pounds weak to 25 cents lower with limited sales. Cows weak to 50 cents lower. vealers steady. Holsteins range to 19 dollars, top vealer at 26 dollars, yearling stock steers around 21.50, good to choice heifers around 18.50 to 21 with some 25 noted, and utility bulls 13 to 14 dollars.
Fares around 6000 calves 500 fed steers under 1200 lbs mostly steady. choice to prime 1250 lbs some weak. Average and heifers steady, cows firm, bulls barely steady. Good to prime vealers and killing calves mostly steady with utility and commercial grades $1 lower.
Iowa hog receipts show estimated 32 000 Tuesday and 43 000 Monday actuals. Prices mostly 15 to 25 cents lower with some declines to around 21.50 to 23.75 per hundredweight across different weight classes. sows and heavier hogs range near 20 to 21.75.
A livestock brief notes an entry labeled Tee AUS Boys, with an inspection tag INS and weight listed between 500 and 550 pounds.
Prices paid at the Cedar Rapids plant vary by weight and class for hogs including Good butchers and packers across weight ranges. Beef cattle and lamb values listed with ranges for steers yearlings cows bulls and mutton. native wool price quoted and corn No 2 price noted.

DETROIT AP In the following tabulation Automotive News Monday estimated output by each car maker for the week ended May 9, the week ended May 2, and the period from January 1 through May 9. The list includes major firms such as Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, and others with varying production percentages.
Theodore Kaghan, deputy director of public affairs for the U S high commissioner in Germany, resigned last week. A spokesman said the resignation was accepted Monday as Kaghan headed to Bonn to settle affairs. He had clashed with Senator McCarthy over investigations. He testified to attending meetings in the late 1940s that could have been Communist directed but denied being a Communist.
Frankfurter aide Kaghan says he resigned after clashing openly with McCarthy. He asserts loyalty and security clearance but notes little support from Washington and describes a disillusioning experience in the state department from Vienna to Berlin.
LeRoy Potter of Waterloo escaped injury when his car collided with a Milwaukee diesel engine at Center Point road crossing Monday evening. Police said the car was nearly demolished. Witnesses reported the crossing signal was working but Potter failed to notice it in time to stop.
Chicago markets show mixed grain prices with wheat steady to slightly lower and soybeans up to two points. Corn and oats move modestly, rye rises, lard advances, while winter wheat crop estimates press prices to seasonal lows before a small rebound.

The Elkader council voted unanimously to install downtown parking meters for a six month trial and will advertise for bids. The plan follows a Chamber of Commerce vote in favor of meters. Mayor W. W. Davidson attended his first meeting since a March 1952 illness.
Three Cedar Rapids leaders were elected Tuesday to Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company board. New directors are William C Crawford senior vice president Crown Plaster Hopkins, and John B Turner II. Six Cedar Rapids directors were re elected. Officers at the board meeting include Mills Durham Hopkins and Coquillette. Financials show assets of 16 009 707 and premiums of 14 313 601 for 1952 with branch offices in Minneapolis Greensboro and Orlando and 15 claim offices across the service area.
Iowa Attorney General Leo Hoegh ordered nine firms to abandon trading stamp deals by June 8 under the state's gift enterprise law. Stamps lauded between two or more merchants violate the statute, with penalties of 500 to 2000 dollars or up to six months imprisonment. The Iowa Crop Land Livestock Reporting Service reports warm sunny weather sped up field work last week. Corn planting began in most parts with central Iowa showing most progress while northeast fields lagged. Soybean planting remains slow though spring plowing nears four fifths completion. Pastures provide about half the forage needs for livestock, near the seasonal average.
DES MOINES AP report notes Mrs Hartness twice rushed to the hospital for injuries to her sons. Stephen, 4, was hurt Sunday by hitting a moving car, and Dennis, 6, sustained a similar injury Monday just half a block from the original scene. Both were listed in good condition.
Dr. Arthur Steindler of Iowa City is awarded the highest foreign recognition by Britain and elected honorary member of the British Orthopedic Association. The honor cites his contributions to orthopedic surgery, textbooks, and teaching at Mercy Hospital and the University of Iowa.
Senator Tobey states there is no expiration on the FCC action setting aside 242 TV channels for education. He notes only a temporary ban on requests to reassign channels has a June 2 expiration date.

Chicago Tribune medals went to Wayne Mead of Cedar Rapids and Ronald L Capps of Iowa City for Army drill, and Robert P Stack for Air Force drill. Stanley L James of Iowa City won third in the governor's rifle match at a noon luncheon in the Iowa Memorial Union.
Voters in the Grinnell Independent School District defeat a 386000 bond proposal by 1160 to 895 to fund two new elementary schools. Milford resident Morris Robinson dies from injuries in a car crash. Iowa State College gains approval to expand Finley hall and dining capacity.
