Delay New Tax On Trade In Sales
Des Moines reports the state tax board postponed until July 1 the effective date of a sales tax on trade in sales. Dealers currently selling a new car with tax paid on full price and reselling the used car tax free will face tax on both sales after July 1. The delay gives dealers time to dispose of cars taken on the old basis. The change aligns with the new use tax where counties collect the levy via county treasurers.
