HAVANA INS The Countess of Covadonga Cuban wife of former King Alfonso s eldest son won a divorce on charges of desertion. The Count de Covadonga once gave up his claim to a restored Spanish throne to marry a commoner and is later connected with an automobile firm in New York. Alimany has not yet been arranged.
Cedar Rapids Raiders lost 6 to 5 in the second game of a two game series at Sioux City Saturday night. Keeney and De Forest hit Raiders home runs but Monahan Hall and Plummer did the same for the Cowboys to swing the game. Waterloo beat Rock Island 6 to 1 while Davenport and Des Moines were rained out.
The CIO leader states that Lewis does not consider the White House a goal or issue, noting his focus elsewhere.
At a New York dinner Canon Rogers of Birmingham jokes that Americans have bought the seats for the royal show and English will not see a coronation. He notes the paradox of kings and crowds and recalls an anecdote about London’s charm and the American city’s numbered streets. The note ends with a tease of more on page seven.
The steam schooner Trinidad grounded off Willapa harbor’s mouth as heavy seas battered it. Coast guardsmen saved 20 crew members after an all night effort. Second Officer Werner Craft was lost, washed overboard as the vessel broke apart three to four miles off North Spit.

The navy’s newest cruiser Savannah slid down the ways into the Delaware River Saturday. The third vessel named Savannah was built at the New York Shipbuilding Corporation yards in Camden New Jersey.
President Roosevelt enjoyed strong fishing luck on Saturday at Aransas Pass Texas catching a tarpon measuring five and a half feet and weighing 77 pounds. He displayed the trophy to photographers and newsreel cameramen.
Donors honor mothers by contributing to the Camp Good Health Fund in Cedar Rapids. The funds aid a summer camp for physically handicapped poor children, run by the Public Health Nursing Association and supported by volunteer gifts. Several children aged 6 8 and 10 are listed on the camp’s preferred intake as doctors prepare invitations.
London society dressed in a riot of color as crowds fill the streets for the coronation countdown. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth depart in private. 15,000 American visitors join crowds while bus and tram strikes loom over parade routes. Royal rehearsals and Abbey microphone tests signal a world broadcast to 500 million.

They aim to prevent a collapse of lighter-than-air transport by obtaining non flammable helium and to learn what the U S government will offer.
Reports say Edward VIII now avoids public fuss after abdication. Staff note he smokes less, rises early for air, and limits flying at Mrs. Simpson's urging for health. Police guard both suites amid threatening letters tied to the royal romance. Edward golfed with Herman L. Rogers as pets trailed nearby.
Forecast shows generally fair conditions in the south and east regions with showers in the northwest on Monday and in the north for Tuesday. South regions expect showers Wednesday, then fair weather returns with rising temperatures through the week and cooler spells midweek and later.
Two women were seriously injured in an elevator incident at the Hotel Belvedere after leaving a dance early Saturday. Miss Mary Edith Meade of Ellicott City and Mrs Grace Clas of Catonsville were pinned between the elevator and the ceiling for nearly two hours before rescue. Dr. David Weinberg amputated Meade’s right leg and Clas’s lower left leg.

G E Howell aged 72 a retired Baltimore and Ohio railroad trainmaster from Cincinnati died after a heart attack while waiting to watch the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. He toppled from a camp stool on the grandstand lawn and passed away minutes later at the emergency track hospital.

In Lakehurst New Jersey a naval board led by Captain Gordon Haines opened a secret session to determine the Hindenburg catastrophe cause. Of 31 victims still in hospitals many may not survive as Captain Max Pruss and Captain Albert Sammt battle critical injuries. Sammt shows some improvement but Pruss worsened this morning after a blood transfusion. The loss of Captain Ernst Lehmann earlier leaves German air power further setback.
