Hinzman seeks ethics board view on relatives in city jobs
Cedar Rapids mayoral hopeful Gary Hinzman asks the Board of Ethics whether his wife, Linda, daughter Paula, and a brother in law must quit city work if he is elected. The board says it lacks jurisdiction as he is not yet a city official or candidate with a direct city job conflict. The board suggests consulting HR or supervisors and notes city employees report to the city manager, not elected officials. The ethics discussion references the city charter and a nepotism policy prohibiting supervision of an employee by a family member.
