Inside the University of Iowa Museum of Natural History in Iowa City, displays of ancient bones headline a 150th anniversary celebration, highlighting ongoing projects and regional history.
The Cedar Rapids City Council voted unanimously against using public dollars to rebuild Alliant Energy's flood damaged Sixth Street Generating Station. The move ends plans to revive the plant and keep eight large steam users plus many smaller users connected. The council will instead use 16 million dollars from the Rebuild Iowa Office to help remaining users retrofit as they exit the steam network.

Riverside residents hosted a sneak peek of Star Trek at the Marcus Sycamore Cinema in Iowa City. Paramount invited nearly 300 locals to preview the film ahead of its nationwide opening Friday at Galaxy 16 Cine Wynnsong 12 Cedar Rapids Sycamore 12 Iowa City Coral Ridge 10 Coralville.
The defeat of the 1 percent local option sales tax in Coralville may cut about 6.5 million dollars annually from Johnson County cities that would have approved the tax. Coralville would have contributed roughly that amount each year based on 2008 retail sales, representing over a third of the projected 17.4 million from all jurisdictions. Iowa City's projects and flood recovery plans could be delayed without Coralville's share, though city managers say flood priorities remain but timing could shift. Iowa City expected about 9.2 million annually if all four jurisdictions had approved the tax.
